Dr. Wiegand was an active duty Air Force officer for 8 years, in which she had clinical teaching duties for resident physicians and medical students at Wright State University and Wright-Patterson Medical Center. She was the Medical Student Clerkship Director for Wright State University’s School of Medicine medical students rotating through Wright Patterson OB/GYN clerkship for two years. Dr. Wiegand was a clinical teaching instructor for Portsmouth Naval Hospital residents for two years while assigned to Langley Hospital in Virginia. While there, she was the Deputy Medical Director and the staff physician in charge of implementing an inpatient electronic medical records system for the hospital. She earned her fellowship from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Medicine and was on the clinical teaching staff for Maternal-Fetal Medicine for three years. While at UNC, Dr. Wiegand was involved in several research projects regarding opioid use in pregnancy, including implementation of an “opioid algorithm” for care of pregnant women. Dr. Wiegand’s specialty areas include maternal pre-existing medical disorders, prenatal diagnosis, clinical obstetrics, substance use disorders, and resident education.
