We know you are anxiously anticipating the moment you can first see and hold your baby.
If you have a high-risk pregnancy or are carrying a baby with a known fetal condition, we will calm your fears with a caring touch.
The Perinatal Intensive Care Unit (PICU) at Miami Valley Hospital provides specialized care for high and at-risk moms before, during and after birth. Our experienced nurses are comfortable caring for high-risk pregnancies and will anticipate your needs. The rooms in the PICU are all private and spacious and include intensive care equipment for any situation. Our full team of doctors, nurses and other medical staff at your bedside will be focused on high-quality care for you and your baby. Every medical specialty that may be needed will be available as your baby is born. Should your baby need immediate attention, there is access to our highly-rated and the region’s most experienced Level III newborn intensive care units with a full complement of pediatric specialists nearby. Many times the delivery is in one of three delivery rooms only steps from the neonatal intensive care unit’s resuscitation room. This allows for the pediatric specialists to have the most timely access to your baby.
Our PICU is the only high-risk maternity center in the Dayton region. Our team has the experience necessary to address all possibilities that may arise over the course of your baby’s birth. A few examples of typical cases seen at Miami Valley Hospital’s PICU include expectant moms with extreme hypertension, diabetes and gestational diabetes, thyroid issues, gastric by-pass, placental abnormalities, advanced maternal age and multiple gestations.
Staff in the PICU are neonatal resuscitation (NRP) and advanced cardiac life support (ACLS) certified. Mothers with high-risk pregnancies are transported from 17 counties in southwest Ohio to Miami Valley Hospital for specialized care in our family-centered Perinatal Care Unit.
During your admission, before or during your baby’s birth, our team of experienced and compassionate caregivers will guide you through these memorable moments.
